STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The holiday season is fast approaching, and to get into the joyous spirit, the South Shore is brightening up their neighborhoods with tree lightings and decorations.

The South Shore Business Improvement District (BID) and Councilman Joseph Borelli will host an annual tree lighting event in Annadale on Sunday, Nov. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m.

It will be held at Annadale Park, located next to Richmond County Savings Bank (820 Annadale Rd).

The free event is open to the public and will feature face painting, a DJ, bouncy houses, pictures with Santa Claus, a train ride for kids and a performance by Miss Caroline’s Dance Elite.

“The tree lighting event and holiday lighting displays are a great way for the community to come together,” said Councilman Joe Borelli. “It highlights the beauty of our towns as well as the small businesses there, and I encourage everyone during the upcoming holiday season to visit the towns and shop local.”

The BID will also light the rooflines of businesses in Annadale to create the neighborhood’s first-ever “Christmas Village.” Annadale, Eltingville and Great Kills will be lighted with 28 festive arches.

“This year the South Shore will have its biggest display to date,” said Anthony Rapacciuolo, executive director of the South Shore Business Improvement District. “The addition of lighting to the businesses in Annadale will create a Christmas Village feel and we’ve increased the number of lighted arches in the towns from a total of 15 last year to 28 this year.”

This year’s holiday sponsors include Hudson Wealth Management, Decks R Us and others, in addition to funding from the BID.
